Welcome to Kindergarten!

Greetings
The children had a wonderful time at Fenton Ruby Park. Thank you to the parents that were able to chaperone this trip. We are putting together a book about our field trip, which will include some photos of the things we saw. We will add this to our traveling book bags.
Here’s Looking at You 2000
This month, we will begin our unit on drugs and safety. The children will be introduced to Frog (a puppet), who is visiting our class to help us learn about drugs. We will be talking about what a drug is, what to do if you find a drug, what is a poison, what to do if you find a poison and how drugs can sometimes look like candy.

Traveling Book Bags
We hope you are continuing to enjoy sharing our class books with your child. Please remember that we try our best to include all the children in our books. However, there are times when kids are absent, leave for doctor’s appointments, or are at the nurse and miss out on creating our books. I am sorry if your child has been omitted from one of our class books. I promise there will be many more books and opportunities for your child to be included.
Keep on Reading!
Homework: Letter Sound Home Link Books
Each week your child will be bringing home their letter sound home link books. They will be assigned one letter to do in their book. The letter will be written on the back of their book. Please make sure that this is the only letter that they do. Your child needs to practice writing the upper and lowercase letter on the right page and draw a picture and cut one out that begins with the letter sound on the left. Along with the pictures, your child needs to write the word or a sentence to go with the picture. Please do not tell your child how to spell their word(s). We would prefer that they use their knowledge of letter sounds to write down the letters they think they hear in their words.
Holiday Party
Our class will be having a holiday party on Monday, December 21st. Instead of children bringing grab bag gifts for each other to swap, we are asking that the kindergarteners bring a gift for the classroom, to be used by all the children. This idea has been successful for the past few years. The kindergarteners show pride in contributing to the learning materials in the classroom. You will find our wish list below. You may wish to choose something from there, or decide upon something else you think the class would enjoy/benefit from using in school. In the past some families have chosen to share in the cost of items that are more expensive. Please have your child bring in his/her class gift, wrapped with the giver’s name on it, to school before our holiday party. The students will take turns opening the gifts for the classroom at the holiday party.
Some Gift Ideas

We do need the money along with the permission slips, prior to field trips. We are expected to pay for the field trip upon arrival. Please make checks out to Center School Activity Fund.
